Two Web Hosts Are Better Than One

You probably think its crazy to use two different web hosting providers. I used to think so too. After all, most shared hosting plans give you tons of disk space and bandwidth and they allow you to host as many domains as you could ever need. Why should you pay twice the price if one gives you all you'll ever need?

That's what I used to think. Then I suffered a painful lesson that taught me never to put all of my eggs in one basket again.

Hosting Compare

When I first started building web sites I didn't have a lot of money to spare so I was very careful with my expenses. I chose an inexpensive shared hosting plan with a provider that had a good reputation. For a long time things went smoothly and I never had any problems at all.

But then it happened. My web host's server crashed and all of my sites were down. And while they were down my revenue grinded to a halt. It took several calls to their customer support line to find out what was going on and all they could tell me was that the problem was not on my end. There were lots of sites down and they were working hard to get them back up as soon as possible.

It ended up taking them a week to get things back to normal. All of my sites were down that entire week. If anyone tried to visit them they got a "Page Not Found" error and probably thought the site was gone for good. Any advertising links that were providing me traffic were sending them to a lousy error page and there was nothing I could do about it. I didn't make a dime all week long.

But oh boy did I learn my lesson! As soon as my sites came back up and I had verified that all was back to normal I opened another hosting account with a different provider and moved half of my sites to their server. I'm no longer putting all of my eggs in one basket. If one of them crashes all I have to do is redirect my sites to the other host's server and I'll be back in business in no time.

Sure it costs me a little more each month, but hosting is so cheap these days that its foolish not to have a backup plan with a secondary host.

Affordable Website Hosting - Can't Get Better Than Dirt Cheap

Can you afford to buy yourself a burger, a fries and a coke once a month?

Then you can afford to host a website on the internet.

VPS

Wait a minute. Strike that.

You can afford to host ten websites on the internet.

That's right.

Here in 2007, the business of web hosting has become so highly competitive that web hosting services are literally falling all over one another trying to offer you the most bells, whistles, options, disk space, bandwidth and tender loving care that you can possibly handle.

And personally, I'm loving it.

I remember a time when web hosting packages typically offered you something like:

200 MB of diskspace 20 GB of bandwidth (if you were lucky) PHP, Perl, SSI support 5 subdomains 1-5 MySQL databases

And that's about it.

For this you would have to fork out between - per month.

Everything else was extra.

More databases cost you extra.

Shopping carts cost you extra.

SSL cost you extra.

Sometimes even support for Frontpage extensions cost you extra.

And of course --back then-- a typical web hosting package allowed you to only host one domain. If you wanted to host other domain names on the same account, well then... yup, that's right, you guessed it... it cost you extra.

Welcome to web hosting in 2007.

Now at the very least you can expect to have the following in your affordable website hosting package:

250 GB of hard disk space 2.5 TB of bandwidth (that's terabytes or 1000 gigabytes) Unlimited MySQL databases Unlimited subdomains Unlimited email accounts Python support Ruby on Rails support Installable shopping cart solutions Auto script installers (allowing easy setup for blogs, forums, etc) A variety of web statistics programs

...and, best of all, multiple domain hosting (at least 10) on the same account at no extra cost.

And all this should now cost you around a month. A deal like this, of course, should come with all the usual amenites such as 99.9% uptime guarantee, 30 day money back guarantee and a gaggle of technical support options including a toll-free telephone support line and a user forum.

If the web host you are currently considering isn't offering you at least all of the above for around the same price then they just simply aren't in the game. Run like the wind and find yourself another web host. YOU CAN DO BETTER.

Nowadays, fledgling webmasters have more web hosting resources at their disposal than they could ever possibly hope to use up. And if you do max out those kinds of resources (especially the bandwidth allotment) then you are getting some major traffic to your website(s) which you can easily monetize into something that far exceeds seven dollars per month. At that point, the small cost of upgrading to a larger package will be the least of your worries.

So if you're thinking about creating yourself an online presence, now is the time. The cost of hosting a website on the internet doesn't get much better than dirt cheap.

Linux Vs Windows Hosting - Who's Better?

The 2 major types of web hosting are the Linux and the Windows hosting. As we all know, Windows is a Microsoft product. So, getting a hosting with Windows hosting requires a license with Microsoft. This makes the price slightly higher. So, the question on which hosting plan is better? Let us make a comparison here.

The Windows operating system is the most used operating system in the world. It is said that 95% of all PCs uses it. Therefore, they are the dominant force and people looking for a host will be more likely to go for Windows.

Hostgator

On the other hand, Linux hosting is more superior because it is made by securityspace.com. According to surveys, Linux has an advantage over Windows. Therefore, most users who are using it ace no problems at all. But this does not mean that Windows are no good. They are actually better than Linux in a few areas.

For instance, the Linux system does not have the ASP.NET technology that comes with the .NET. it is only available in the Windows system. Another issue is the access to the MySQL database that is only available with Windows. You can also use other Microsoft applications like Sharepoints and Frontpage 2003 together with the hosting plan.

Nevertheless, the Linux system is good for users to build a very good website. It allows you to run your website with Apache, MySQL and PHP. The infrastructure that you can build is very solid. Also, the PHP is much more efficient when compared to Windows server. The price of a Linux hosting is also an added value because it will cost 20% less than Windows hosting plan.

Both hosting plans are well developed a can be used to build a successful website. You just need to know what your preferences are and you can decide which one to go for.
